I heard Daphne Miller, M.D. on Forum (KQED) yesterday and was fascinated. Dr. Miller has traveled the world in search of healthy indigenous diets and wrote a book—The Jungle Effect—about her findings. In The Jungle Effect (and on the show) Miller shares the healthy secrets of authentic cuisines and explains why she thinks diet is such an important part of fighting many of the chronic illnesses she sees in her patients.
Check out her site and get the book.

You made me think of another book you might want to look at it's called "Simply in Season" it's all about eating locally (& in season). I did feel better when my roommates and I "ate from" this book. The only problem I had with it was squash is always in season & I'm not a big fan.
I totally understand. In California, squash is ALWAYS in season. The cool think about Dr. Miller is that she seems to really love real food (actual real cheese, carbs, etc.). I love that. I'll check out "Simply in Season" for sure!
I remembered another one "Animal, Vegetable, Miracle." I read it during my semi-Vegan stint. It's more about a family's journey of growing their own food & buying local but it's got recipies in there too. Some of them don't fall in the "real food" catagory per say but they're interesting to try. It's really an amazing book, that also happends to make me feel guilty at the same time.
